Who We Are:
The Women in International Development (WID) Project, formerly the Gender Lensed Curricula for Development (GLCD) project, is supported by a diverse and dedicated team of faculty, staff, and students at Texas A&M University and collaborating institutions. Our team represents years of teaching and research experience focused on the roles of women in the United States and abroad.
Research:
Women in International Development is an initiative focused on the development of curricula to bring awareness to roles that women play in development. Our planned result is developed modules focused on research-based development impact areas where women play key roles and are valued for their contributions. A second major project outcome is the development of a community focused on these issues.
“I have been engaged in international development work for over 30 years, yet when undergraduate and graduate students raise questions about women’s role in development or women’s status in other cultures, I am caught flat-footed…We need research-based curricula about this important topic that can be incorporated into our courses. It is imperative that we prepare our graduates to not only be sensitive to the roles of women in development, in the U.S. and abroad, but also how we may take women into account in more purposeful ways.”
